Default audi tt my shifter does not change smoothly

Any of you guys feel like that the 5 speed shifter is notchy? Like shifting into 1st and 2nd there seems to be a notchy "clicky" feel. (not too smooth) and going into 3rd and 4th is very easy and smooth. Does any one else feel like that about their shifter?

When I bought/ordered my first TT way back in 02, i was originally going to get a 180 5spd as I thought it was a better value for the money. But, because of the notchiness you describe, that was very evident on my test drives (in the dealers new car), I ended up buying a 225 6spd. I just couldn't get used to the feel.

Try these guys:
I don't see them listed, but they make bushings for the TT. They are cheap, a simple install and will help with your problem.

@beachchair,

thank you. your saying its the bushings? nothing to do with the shifter ball bushings(in the car). just the cable bushings found in the engine bay.

Can't say for sure, but the bushings are worth a try. They made a noticeable difference for me.

I have the bushings from speed source. They will make your shifting MORE notchy not less. Remember, your replacing rubber with brass. They WILL get rid of the sloppy play on the trans side of the linkage tho. I went with the brass bushings and a B&M shifter. No more problems with play/weirdness.

Notchy? I don't find that at all.
The bushings make for a more precise, smoother shift with less slop.
