Default automatic tt. stiffness/thu

03' auto/tipp
When i move the shifter from park to reverse or drive to reverse the shifter feels a bit stiff and then i get a nice thud and a little shake in front of the car when I get it in gear.. Same sort thud/shake when im going uphill and it downshifts most noticeably into 3rd gear, and when I come to a complete stop there is sometimes a little shudder..
I crawled under there yesterday but didnt have time to get the plastic out of the way so i could see anything. Does this sound like a mount issue to you guys or something more sinister? Inner cv crossed my mind but the boots look good.

Ideas?

auto trannies get clunky when they are going out, getting old, or haven't been serviced. My benz has a similar issue... That being said, check the mounts, as well. When is the last time that you had it flushed?

Its got 70k on it. Havn't had it flushed. I checked the fluid level about 6 months back and it was right on. Fluid looked pretty good. Haven't had any codes pop up.

routine maintenance interval on the tranny service? (Outtie, where ya' at?)

To be safe, you should probably take it to a reputable transmission specialist in your area. While I can't speak for the others on here, automatic transmissions are the devil IMHO.

I was excited today to find a busted mount... Much better than the alternative. Woot!

mine sometimes does that too... im kinda dreading having the fluid changes sense its like $700+ at the dealership to do.. but was messed up... i asked the service manager about it...and he had never heard about having the tranny fluid changed/flushed in my car ('03 180fwd tip/auto)

I'm going to replace that lower mount once the part gets here on Friday and get my tires balanced. Hopefully that will take care of the issues I'm having. If not?.. well, damn the man...

Even if its all good after that, I'll probably pick up some fluid/strainer/gasket online and at least refill and clean the pan.

I talked to Audi about servicing the tranny b4.. they wanted 600 to do a power flush. I've heard too many horror stories about that.

dont flush the tranny unless you are replacing the clutch, all that nice "gook" in there is helping to keep certain holes that you dont know about pluged, so don't touch it. also, you should not have gotten an Automatic, these cars are too fun to drive in standard IMHO.

I didn't go out looking for an automatic but after shopping for a TT for like 6 months I found this one in great shape for a good price.
The 6 speed tiptronic can be pretty fun as well.
A couple annoying thing tho;
1. A couple times at a long stoplight I've forgoten that was in was in tiptronic mode so I take off and forget to shift right away reving the engine way up in first. Then i feel dumb.

2. If you kick down the accelerator it will downshift to too whatever gear is near redline.. seems like that should be in automatic only. So i avoid doing that. Maybe i just dont understand the kickdown thing.

3. A couple times it was taking its sweet time to downshift when i'm slowing down so I pull the lever back and it downshifts two gears.
