No, a cat just heats up the exhaust gas to burn all the fuel.

IF your running on 2 cylinders you have either:

bad plug
bad coilpacks
a cracked/damaged coilpack harness

Ok if that was the issue, would it also throw a code about a bad "cat on bank 1" or something like that? As well as misfire codes.

RE: Bad Cat

That is usually an o2 code i believe, you need to get the actual code to find out more.

But if you have missfires in just 2 cylinders and not all of them, you should have something listed above along with a bad o2 and /or cat

Could the bad plugs/coil packs cause the cat or o2 sensors to go bad or vice versa? I dont wanna get a new cat or o2 sensorsif its justbad plugs/packs. I guess I can take the plugs out and see how those look. Also how do you tell if a coil pack has gone bad? FYI-this isnt on my car, just helpin a buddy out.

heneeds codes. running on 2 cylinders would mean plugs/packs/wiring and the code seems like a o2 problem

just go to the auto parts store and get you a set of 4 NGK bkr7e plugs and replace them, cheap and easy, then you can go from there
