Boost Gague
Ok so i setup the boost gague yesterday. im currently waiting on a vent ring but i got power going to it. and its reading boost but only when im in gear and only after i press the gas pedala certain way regardless of the RPM.
also the needle doesnt sit at 0 it sits at 25 Hg on the VAC side when its at idle. I know i did the setup right, T @ FPR, running to the boost gague. This is my 1st turbo car so this whole boost gague concept is new to me. im not sure if this is how its suppose to work .. but something is odd here. maybe the boost gague needs to be calibrated???? its an autometer compactsport 2 series.

ok, when im on the highway doing 100km (60MPH) and at 2500rpm im touching the gas pedal but lightly im at 10 VAC only when i feel the car accellerating do i see th eboost gague go past 0
i thought the boost gague would reamin at 0 and only measure boost OR Vac.
I thought that the turbo spools for sure at 3k rpm. should it not be reading boost regardless of how much gas im giving it since the turbo is spooled?

also noted that when i floor it the max boost i saw is 16/17psi max. i was also really surprised at the fact that the boost is very steady adn it holds without fluctuations. but i dont know if i can trust it since i "think" there needs to be calibration.
I was reading about boost "spikes" when are these skipes ussually occurring?what are some tell tale signs that the boost gague could tell me about?

most people see 18-22in hg vacuum at idle, you seem to see more, it depends on you sea level. Also you wont boost unless you give it a good amount of gas andcreate load. You can get 20psi at `~2600rpm's but if you are just crusing, you can be at 80mph and almost 4k and still be ~10in hg of vacuum. Everything you have is normal. youare just not use to how load controls the turbo along with the rpms/gas peddle
*sigh* i just had a mini freak out last night... almost like when my 3 different girlfriends !almost! showed up at the same function... woah that was close lol [8D]... i just jumped in mycar on my lunch and the Vac was at 20hg, but the car was running cold so i wonder if it has a hand to play.
Ok so... now that i know my setup was OK what are some warning signs that i should pay attention to when looking at my boost gague?
im gonna rig a camera to record my driving on a 1 gig card and see how it fluctuates ... as far as i was seeing when it actually records boost the needle hold steady until late rpm where is see 1 psi - 2 psi drop but at that time i need to shift anyways.
when i slammed the pedal i saw 17 psi max, most of the time 15-16 but it holds steady, i dont notice the needle being jumpy at all.
i was told the the n75 was prone to irradic boost spikes, are there tell tale spots where i should be paying closer attention?
Also 5th gear seems to be the one that generats the most boost. i guess thats cuz its got the highest load?

i was told the the n75 was prone to irradic boost spikes, are there tell tale spots where i should be paying closer attention? - n75 is a pretty steady device, you shouldnt see spikes like that. just watch your peak boost

low vacuum or boost
just watch your peak boost
PS- i finally got the last piece of the stg 3 modshack. boost machine is on the way, along with my vent ring so i can get the gague out of my cig lighter area lol .. its mounted in the most brute manner... thank god for the zip ties lol ... i guess ill have to figure out how to read the gague a lot better b4 i try messing around and raising the boost too much.
Any suggestions/tips/epifanies
After awhile you will know how your car should be boosting and if its not normal. Like if you went from peaking at 17psi and now only see 13psi tops. You know something is wrong. Or if you start idling at 11in hg instead of 20in hg.
peak - the highest psi your car will reach, for a ko3 around 2500-3500rpms
when you up the boost, do it slowly and drive it in differnt loads to correctly identfy boost levels
