Broken Valve... What next?
2002 Audi TT 180. Driving down the freeway and for no reason what so ever the valve broke. So now I am face with a dilemma... Do I replace the two broken valves or all 20. THe bottom end looked good ( the dealer is doing the work now me.) I have about 95k miles on the car. Everything else seems to be in working order.
The exhaust valves are what are weak. Get yourself some new supertech valves from ecs for $20/ea (stock are $75 and you need 8). Also you should consider picking up new guides while you are at it for the same valves
Never seen this happen. I used ones from rockauto on my TT. 10k miles later no issues. I changed them due to a slipped timing belt. But they seemed fine to me, just bent. Do you race a lot with high octane gasoline or something?
Broken valve= Broken trubo. Thats right. Its $2500 to fix the broken valve, but now I have to replace the turbo. The broken peice made its way into the turbo and killed it. I hate this car. This happened 3 weeks after my warranty expired.
Why in the hell would you pay $2500 to fix it? You can get yourself a good used head for about $400 or less and a timing belt kit for around $125 (unless you just need a new belt and tensioner). Get some new hardware and you should be able to have it done for around $1200-1500 tops. You can swap out the turbo yourself. A ko3s turbo used is $150 and not that hard to swap.
And why are you at a dealership??? You said your warranty ran out 2-3 weeks ago so........????? There has to be a performance shop in Sacramento SOMEWHERE, right?
The dealer took care of me on the head. I dropped off the turbo to them today. I'm also changing the intake piping out for silicone. When I pick the car up I should be about 245hp. That will be fun until I finish building a new motor/turbo set up. My plan is a 2.0 built engine with about 400hp. I am trying to keep the build to about $12k.
Total out of pocket to fix the car is about $2800.
Fully machined head
New valves
New Turbo
New piping
New fuel pressure reg.
New Coils/plugs
Tuned ECU.
