Default A/C and clicking noise

My girlfriend just bought a 2000 TT quattro, and I have the pleasure of working on it. I like it, its a good car, fun to drive, and the first sports car where I actually feel safe behind the wheel. But lately its had a little gremlin. When she's at idle, the A/C clutch starts clicking on and off, but when when its driving forward there's no problem. There is plenty of cold air coming out of the vents.

Have any ideas?

Yeah mine does the same thing. The sound comes from the pass. side. I attributed this to my water pump.
Seeing as after I had it replaced along with my timing belt this started. When the A/C or heat is off there's no noise...

I'm not sure if this is the cause or if it's bad.... Where's Dave?

regass required it quite normal, ice cold air gets warmer refrigerant looses its pressure happens approx ever 3 to 4 years dependant on use ( and it should be used often even in the summer ) because the seals harden and crack

actually the clicking noise is the AC clutch not starting to prevent damage to the system so its normal

Mine is always on, this didn't start until after the timing belt/water pump change. Just strange, I guess I'll check my hoses out.
Thanks Dave!

there are 3 fuses on top of the battery box. the fuse on the left is responsible for the fans.. atleast the fans that kick in when the AC is on.
