Default car constantly shutting off

hey! im new to this forum... i bought my audi tt about 6 months ago and a few days ago we developed some serious problems. i was on my way to my friends shop to change my oil and about 2 minutes down the road my oil light came on and my car completely shut off. so without power steering i pulled it over and restarted it and it started again. the whole time this has been happening i have checked my oil and it says it is full and the oil looks normal. basically what i have to do is let the car sit for at least an hour in order to get it started again... i cant figure out what the problem is. my check engine light has never come on so it doesnt seem like it is that serious. if anyone has any suggestions i would really really appreciate it. thanks.

Are you POSITIVE it's not pissing oil? Checked for cracks/leaks in the oil pan?

If it is, you could mess up your engine bigtime...then you'll have to get it stroked out to 2.0L over the course of several months like cincyTT

im positive. i put a rag under it last night to see if it was leaking but when i checked this morning there was nothing on it. do you know if there is a sensor that could have gone bad that might be kicking my car off like that?

maybe but would that kick my car off? im about to go work on it right now but all the idiot dealership told me to do was change the oil and everything will be back to normal.... i dont think changing the oil has anything to do with shutting my damn car completely off.

Reason why I say that, when I bought my Audi, I asked the guy on a serious note what he thought about these cars and he said they were great cars and the problem with them is the 1.8 engine not the car. He told me about the timing belt issue and also about oil pump going out on them. He warned me that if the oil light ever came on, pull over and get a tow truck because if I kept driving it like that, the results would be disastrous. (This was all said to me after everything (the sale)was said and done)

got ya. well i looked it up in my owners man. and the light that keeps flashing is my oil pressure light. so u are right! im not really sure what to do but... seeing as though my car isnt using any oil im guessing i have a blockage or that pump has gone bad... which im sure would shut the car off... i just checked the oil and it says over full now... i havent changed or added oil for over 3000 miles. im gonna change the oil anyways to see what happens but... im pretty sure that isnt the problem. thank you for your help!

If you ran it a while w/o an oil pump I would sell the car asap. You prob cut the engine life in half.
