Default clutch: 00 Audi TT Quattro

I am working on a 00 Audi TT Quattro 1.8 turbo 5-spd. I am trying to put the clutch in this car for a friend. Well he bought the clutch kit w/ flywheel off ebay and it was the wrong one - would not even fit on the input shaft of the tranny and the overall size (depth) was smaller then the original - about 3/8" - I don't think the throw-out bearing would move enough to disengage the clutch.
so he had to send it back and the guy sent him a new one. well the new one the clutch disc seems right - it fits onto the input shaft of the tranny. but it is still small (depth - from the fingers of the pressure plate to the crank mounting surface of the flywheel) it's still about 1/4"-3/8" smaller. And the starter ring on the flywheel is way off about 1/2" too short - the starter will never catch on it.

I don't know what these clutches are suppose to fit on but they are definately not this car. Anyone know why he can't get the right clutch and flywheel for this car?

Also neither one of these kits came with a clutch alignment tool - why is this, every clutch i have ever done came with an alignment tool.

1st issue is he bought an ebay clutch. the clutch is something you should def not be going the cheapo route. Many go with southbend and spec.

sounds like he got an 02J clutch kit instead of a 02M kit that he needs. All quattros use the same clutchs even though the 180q is the only 5sp 02M

02J and 02M are the 2 transmissions that came in the TT. The 02J is in the FWD TT and uses a 212mm clutch and is upgraded to a 228mm VR6 (6cyl engine) clutch. THe 02M is the 180q (180 quattro) and 225 (225hp edition) and uses a 240mm clutch

Might want to read this and get familure with both terms and specs

All kits can be had with a single mass flywheel. The lighter you go, the more it will chatter at idle. You will need to increase idle 200-400rpms tom minimize its annoyance

he's giving me the run around, he thinks you guys don't know what your talkin about. Any clutchkit from 00-06 QUATTROS will work correct? Is there anyway I can tell by the numbers on the tranny or anything like that, he thinks maybe the tranny got swapped or some S**T

Well he would be the one that is wrong and has no idea what is going wrong. If he has a 1.8t with awd, he needs any 02m 240mm clutch. All use the same clutch and fw. If he is to dumb to get this, then you just need to stop helping him

Please post up what he bought. Im sure you are smart enough to go to a website and put in the correct make/model to get the correct clutch kit

i looked on fourseasontuning.com and found a couple that would work even talked to james from fourseason and he confirmed everything to me, there were 2 kits (LUK and SACHS) that would work but one didn't include the 00 model year as applicable, and I asked JAMES and he said it was their fault it was printed wrong, but when I sent my friend the link for that kit, he said it was wrong and that there is something different about the 00 and thats why he keeps getting wrong parts.

he got a valeo kit (he gave me Pt.# 5228651 I looked on valeo site and he needs #52405615. - maybe they just sent him the wrong part accidently i will double check with him and have him contact them
