Default Clutch Problem?

Ok so i'm not sure how to tell if a clutch is shot, but when i put it in first and let off it kind of jumps a little bit no matter how much gas i'm givin it. Also on the highway today I smelled something that I thought was burning or somethin. A real acidic smell. Any thoughts?

I knew my clutch was bad when I was cruising on the highway in 4th anf 5th gears and when I hammered the gas all I got were lots of revs and no go.

It eventually did this in 3rd as well.

thats a pretty good way to tell. If you give it more gas than its going you are experience what we call slippage. My last car's clutch was going and i had to wait to get my replacement in shipping. When i was taking it to get it done you could smell the clutch burning on the highway to the shop. Shortly there after the whole clutch was gone and i had to coast down the highway and then get towed the final few miles to the shop. While waiting to get into the shop my car was broken into and vandalized. I really hated life then. All this for a spoiler and a attempt for my carbon fiber hood. BA***DS!!

When my clutch was going bad, it was obvious.

I'd push the gas...i'd have lag..then it'd kick in...I couldn't pound on it ...or there would be no go.

You know when your clutch is going bad, with the bad comes the good. Upgrade to a ECS tuning stage 1
it will also come with a 14lbs flywheel...much better clutch...if you find the right shop it will be decently priced.

I had my clutch replaced (labor) for $245. Trick is to find a small town about 30 miles away...they want the business.

Man talk about bad luck. Well today when i was on the highway, I could smell something burning, i thought it smelled like break fluid but it didnt make since cause i wasnt breaking. But yeah sometimes when I step on it, my car almost pulses like its misfiiring or something. Does this sound similar to what you started to experiecne right before it went out?

I believe you got what you paid for. If I remember correctly the dealer had to fix some things from that mechanic screwing up.

If you are experiencing any of thethings above you should really start saving for a new clutch and take it to someone to better identify it for you if you are not sure yourself ASAP.

I disagree with this statement. I think you should rev to 6500 rpms and dump the clutch. This is my fix for all TT ailments.

LOL, well to be honest thats how I kinda figured my clutch was going bad to begin with. Except it was only aroun 3500 and i didnt quite dump it. But oh didit smoke! I'll go get it checked out though. Its gotta be slipping, I think that it might be connected to some sort of brake moniter cause when I step on it and it feels like its slipping, the damn brake light starts blinking/beeping. I've decided to take it to the shop for my brakes and have them look at my clutch as well. I know the guy so he wont try and sell me something i dont need. Either that or I can flip my car into a ditch and total it like I did my jetta, somehow making a couple of grand off of it. And i have to say, after I crawled out of my upside down car without a scratch, it was kinda fun.
