Clutch replacing
ok the TT is on jack stands, pretty much all dissasembled so i think i'll take some pics of the engine tranny, turbo etc. since i'm guessing most of you dont know what it looks like under there. I must say that this is the first Car that i've do this to and it really isnt that bad after you take all the insulation, covers etc off , you can really get access to almost anything. plus having the bentley cd repair manual helps a little.( but it could help more) Since i'm down there i'm gonna replace all my vaccum hoses(hosetechniques.com, universal starter kit) also replacing my coolant expansion tank, and painting my brake calipers black with the 4 white audi rings. also replaced my fuel filter. i'm really optimistic about doing this clutch and flywheel because all i have left to do is remove the driveshafts and then its time to drop the tranny. if anybody does this in the future and needs help or questions just let me know

Sounds like a good-sized undertaking -- be sure to take LOTS of pictures! If you'd like, you can send me those pictures in their full-sized form and I can superimpose text commentary (that you specify) over the top of them so that you can post them up in here! If nothing else, start one of those nifty 'Fotki's....
thanks!
P.S. If you'd like to send me those pictures, PM me and I'll send you my email

ok the tranny is out and i replaced the slave cylinder / throw-out bearing. removed the old pressure plate and clutch disc. need a helper to hold crankshaft pulley while i remove the big *** flywheel. oh yeah the tranny dropping was quite scary. i might have to get a different tranny jack in order to put it back in.( hope not, that thing is heavy. BTW for all those thinking they can do this themselves. THINK again this is by far the hardest thing i've ever done. these damn audis' require more special tools than i can say. i've spent nearly 200 bucks in tools in order to do this myself. if i had to do it all over again i think i would of just paid the 600bucks to have a shop do it.( but yet again can you really trust shops these days, think they have complete control over your baby, at least if anything goes wrong i have only myself to blame.
ok removed the stock dual mass fw and now bolted on new billet steel fw. i must say that i'm saving around 30 lbs of rotating mass so this will def give me more whp!!! and let me rev faster! the new flywheel, clutch disk, and pressure plate all put together is hella lighter than just the stock dual mass flywheel. so yeah i can see more you might hear a little more noise down there but its perfectly normal. i've looked and it seems that eveything will be very smooth. VW guy at Spec told me that the kevlar and carbon are a little noisy during the 500 mile break-in period and then should go away(well depending on how i drive it) i'd say i'll be driving the car later in the week sometime. since i still am replacing vac hoses and coolant hoses etc. also painting my calipers black/w/white rings. and replacing my coolant expansion tank. hopefully this weekend at least
TADA!!! now its time to start putting all the piping back in its place, bolt up the subframe, connect power steering pressure lines, and pulley, put the main drive shaft back in and then exhaust back in, then wheels, battery, bleed clutch system, top off fluids and start the beast!!! the toughest part during this was the main driveshaft and putting the tranny back in!!! i'll post them pics when i get all done!!
