Default coolant leak...

hey folks...my '01 TT Roadster 225hp has developed a coolant leak. I did the timing belt/thermostat/water pump last year, and the coolant warning came up back then and i just topped off figuring its low from the work i did....let it sit most of the winter..

and now back to driving it and noticed the light back on and a pool of pink under the engine. i thought i left the thermostat housing bolts loose so i removed rechecked and reset them...drove it around...looked good for a day or so...and then once the car cooled it leaked again!

it looks like its coming from the thermostat area...but without taking off the entire front end i cant be sure...from underneath it drips down the front of the oil pan...

edit-
okay did more poking...with a mirror and can def see coolant at the bottom of the thermostat housing...and i was able to take a pic..i think the new housing i got is bad?!? or the o-ring too thick? or the whole thing isnt seated properly...please see attached pic notice the gap between the housing and the engine block...its about 2-3mm in the middle, but sits flush at the bolts is this normal (guessing not) and how do i fix it?
