Dilemna
So I'm having some major decision issues. I have my 00 TT Quattro and it's closing in on 85k miles. Originally I was planning going big turbo/big brakes/suspension... but I'm having second thoughts. I'm thinking about getting something a little bigger.
I'm looking at a Subaru Forester XT. I might get a brand new one but ideally I'd like to buy one for 18-20k so I'd be looking at 04-05's. I test drove an 08 5spd and auto. Not a chance in hell I'd get the auto. It's a 4 speed and it isn't geared for sporty driving. The 5spd was actually pretty damn fast. A lot faster than my TT. It obviously didn't handle as well, but it has 8 inches of ground clearance. I'm just a little torn. Every time I look at my car I smile and think about how much I'd miss it. I think I almost like looking at it as much as driving it. I also know how amazing the car would be if I put that 10 grand into it. *sigh* What to do what to do. |
RE: Dilemna
My wife has a 2006 Subaru Outback XT 5 speed and its a great car. Its quick and handles great...for a station wagon. Its also a safe car. It takes us up the mountains in the winter for skiing and snowboarding and its great for road trips. However, its no TT. You really have a decision based on what you need out of a car. Do you need a family hauler and live where it snows...if so the Subie wagons are great. If however you are like me and like having nice toys that look and run nice and always put a smile on your face and needing extra room in your vehicle is not an issue, hands down TT.
Or you can look at this another way...I used to own a sport bike (Kawasaki ZX-12R). One day a guy asked me if he should sell his ZX-12R to buy a bike (Kawasaki EX500) that was half the speed, but also half the price with the interest of saving some money and saving some gas. I told him he can buy the smaller bike and yes he will be saving money, but then figure out how much value he can place on the fun that he would be loosing by going to the smaller bike and see how things add up...he kept the ZX-12R. |

I bought a TT this week and thought I was selling the A6. No No my friends now I own two aud;i's a Revo tuned 300hp Tt and a 400hp a6. Keep the TT and buy an a4 station wagon with the 2.0t or wait for the TDI to come out then great gas and performance.
Just my take |
RE: Dilemna
i never heard of anyone ditching the TT for SNOW!

RE: Dilemna
Okay, if it were me, I'd keep the TT (assuming its mechanically sound). With the seats folded down you'd be amazed what you can fit in the back. I was able to get a bicycle transport case in the back and a suitcase in the front passenger seat. Definitely room for a tent, ice chest, sleeping bags, etc. Plus, if you were going to do some gonzo road trip where you needed to go off road to get to certain camping spots...for the one or two times a year you would be doing this (I'm making assumptions here), you could always rent something.
Hope that helps. |
RE: Dilemna
You're right Joshuo, I put on my 17" wheels and snow tires in the winter and my TT does just as well if not better than my SUV did (the car I owned before the TT). I was just saying a subie is great in the snow as well.

You guys are making this decision a little easier. |
RE: Dilemna
you could use the TT to pick up girls and eventually find your gf ~> wife, then come the kids. then when that time comes, you thank the TT for all that it's done then sellit for a Subaru family car, an STi.

RE: Dilemna
What about the Forester xst? the same 2.5T in the sti. I have seen cobb or some company making 400awhp and sitting about 2" off the ground. I wouldnt mind having that as my "other" car.
