Does TT needs to clutch in while starts the engine?
New to Audi and looking for a TT. This maybe a stupid question but my current BMW 328is doesn't need to step on the clutch when you start the engine.
If you don't like having to push the clutch in, (I don't either) it's real easy to defeat the system on most cars. A tie wrap around the switch or jumpering the wires will do it. I hate not being able to reach in the window and start the car while working on it. [:@]
Actually, there are other reasons besides being able to reach in the window and start the car. Let's say your engine dies and you are stuck in the middle of the road. Or on railroad tracks. It will crank but not start. You could put the car in gear and drive on the starter motor. I have a Porsche that wouldn't start and I needed to load it on a trailer with no wench. No way am I strong enouph to push it myself up the ramps so I just drove it up on the starter motor. No damage done. But with the clutch "safety" switch, I would not have been able to do that.
One thing to consider... if you defeat the clutch safety switch, your cruise control will not work. It disengages when either the clutch or brake is depressed.
I see unintended acceleration all over again. You guys trying to take down Audi for good? ; )
Good piont XLR8, I had not thought of that. I have only defeated the system on cars that did not have cruise, and the Porsche I mentioned came without a clutch safety switch from the factory. (944) Yes, achTTung, if our cars are not 100% idiot proof, somebody will blame the manufacturer for a crash. Can you guess what kind of person that would be? As for me, I don't need safety features to stop me from doing really stupid things.
