Domestic Mullet-by...
So just now, coming home from work I was once again amazed...
Stopped at a light this guy in a beat up super chicken (Thunderbird super coupe) pulls up next to me in the parking lane like he was going to try to sneak past and cut in front of me.
Not Happening...
At the green light I launched perfectly, no bogging at all, and took off. No chance.
Next light (2 lanes)...
I take off again, didn't launch hard, just slightly more agressive than normal driving.
I wasn't trying to race him, but I wasn't going to let him think he was slick either.
Not Necessary, as he didn't realize the light turned green until I was about 6 car lengths away.
About a mile down the road I figure this guy doesn't even want to play, so I drive slower than normal to 35mph (speed limit).
Again, he has the reaction time of a sloth. I go back to cruising mode...
Then I hear him stomp it, as I look he's coming up on my bumper doing about 20 mph faster than me.
I dig down into second, and i'm at about 5 under his speed as i'm shifting into 3rd, he pulls a little on me, I run it through 4th and shut down barely ahead of him for the next light.
<Mullet looks over at me> "You weren't expectin that were ya?"
Me: "Expecting What?" (I can see where this is going)
Mullet: "Well you saw this thunderbird, and didn't think it was gonna beat you"
Me: <gives "are you serious" look>
Mullet: "It's Supercharged, you know" (proud as a kid who just caught his first fish)
Me: Well.....<I trail off into saying "not bad, it's pretty quick for what it is"> because I don't have the time to explain to him what a Rice-By is and how I could have beat just about anything to the next light with a 20mph advantage.
Light turns green, We both take off, slight advantage: me
I give thumbs up, turn off the street.
