Default Drained battery

I lost my license and parked my car for two weeks. When I went to move it, it was dead. Forgot to pull out the car charger! After I jumped it and got it to where I needed I tried to restart it the next day and it wouldn't turn. I previously in other cars had opened the battery cells and filled it up with water and fixed the problem. Can I do that with these batteries? Thanks

Most batteries are now sealed no-maintenance type (your model year?).

Two weeks is not an exceptionally long time of disuse. Perhaps a door/trunk was ajar and thereby a light on? Your battery may no longer by capable of holding a charge due to this (and possibly other prior) deep discharge.

You may not have run it long enough to have the alternator sufficiently recharge the battery. Or the alternator may not be putting out the proper voltage (~14 VDC).

You can have the battery's capacity checked at an automotive parts store to see if it is still capable of holding a charge.

When running you can use a voltmeter across the battery +/- terminals to check for proper output (again ~14v).

If you plan in the future to leave your car for an extended period and/or run accessories (e.g. audio system) with the engine/alternator off, then you may want to look into a "deep cycle" battery such as the Optima Yellow Top.

Thanks so much I'll take it up to an auto store and get the battery checked out.
