Default Ebay intakes

I've been searching around about intakes, seems like most people go with modshack / nuespeed, ect...

My question is since the intakes dont add much HP, why bother spending 100+? Couldn't you just buy a ebay intake, something like this, and then just buy a k&n for it? Or are the ebay intakes considered a big no no. Im not looking for huge power gains, just better looks, and sound.

I love eBay. $24.95 for the item, and $21.95 for shipping.

OR you could just get a cone or shroom filter which is what most guys around here are leaning towards

i hear you man, do the ebay cones actually do anything good for you ( sound & any hp ) or are they more of looks rather than the K&N kits which can give you a little HP ? Im torn on what to buy too, 25$ or 200$.. does it actually matter ?

the only noticeable thing your getting with an intake is sound... your getting like 1-3hp... nothing really noticeable...

however, for things such as big turbo applications, and intake with a higher flow would be needed to match the turbo which some ebay intakes wouldnt be able to keep up with...

thats the shroom, again, my suggestion

Hey thanks. My question is, can you use the shroom type filter with the stock intake tubing. Or do you need aftermarket? Also what are the prices on the filters. The link in that thread linked to a $100+ filter. Can they be had cheaper, if so where?

Yes you can, they can mount directly to the maf if you get one such as the greddy
180 and 225 maf housing sizes are different, please use search to locate the very extensive shroom intake thread

for reference:

180 TT MAF inlet = 2.75"
225 TT MAF inlet = 3.00"

i just mounted the shroom right on the MAF and let it sit on the bottom half of the stock airbox. Modshack sound and better performance, for a not so Modshack price

your not going to find and "cheap" audi parts... parts arent like your civic for these cars. a 100 dollar shroom filter is your best bet and just follow clipses MAF sizing reference for when you purchase
