Epc light on
Hi,
New to the forum and am here to relate a very recent problem to my '03 TT (after announcing myself elsewhere, of course).
After grabbing some dinner, I was returning to work and actually pulling in when the car suddenly stalled. I've owned the car 2 years and this never happened. Would not start but did try to turn over. I got a push into the parking lot by a friend. He suggested getting a battery as an Auto Zone was nearby. I didn't think it was the battery, but I know AZ does free batt checks. I thought maybe a jump was needed and then I would go to AZ.
After about 20 minutes I found someone who had cables. But before hooking them I up I wanted to try to start the car. It started up immediately. Happy but still concerned, I went to AZ for the batt check. After going into AZ, I was told the tester was not working. The store manager seemed generally knowledgeable, so I told him my story. I told him I didn't think it was the battery. He said that it might be something with the fuel system, the fuel filter, etc. He also mentioned bad gas. I told him I occasionally use the "no-name" gas, but use Techron on a regular basis. He gave me a bottle of the Lucas fuel system cleaner for free and told me to stick to church oriented social activities. Well actually he said to not use no-name gas, and hopefully the problem would be resolved.
On the way back, I noticed the EPC light was on. It always goes on when I start the car, but now it stayed lit. I got back to work without incident and I checked the manual, and it said if this light stayed on, the car would go into a "fail-safe" mode and power loss would be noticeable.
A few hours later, I started the car and the light went out. I was at 1/4 tank so I went to Mobil for a fill-up. For what it's worth, I just came back from vacation and the car sat for about 10 days.
Any ideas about what caused this and what I need to do to keep it from happening again would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, the problem (stalling) got progressively worse. So I brought it to my GP guy, an Italian guy who used to fix my old fiat. He scanned it and said it was the Crank Sensor, which I suspected due to reading here.
He did say that should help the stalling, but it had nothing to do with the EPC light. All I can say is that I have had no problems since, although it's only been a week.
