exhaust question

RE: exhaust question
this was my question exactly. I currently have a 3" dp with test pipe, but I think I want to get a high flow cat for the downpipe. I am wondering if I should go back to stock downpipe because I also want to do the borla catback.I would prefer a new highflow cat but im not sure where to begin looking. Anybody know the answer to this one?
Also, if I do get a high flow cat.. like the threat starter asked.. how do we go to the borla which is 2.5

RE: exhaust question
There are so many people that run a 3" dp and a 2.5" cat back. There is no negative effects and its still better than a full 2.5" system.
The best way to connect the two is to use you stock cat....huh? I know. Your stock cat is already agood flowing cat and if it is still in good working order you should keep it. You will not really gainmuch more if you have an high flow cat put on.
What you do is take your cat to a muffler shop or someone that can weld and have them take it from 2.15" to 3" inlet and 2.5" outlet or whatever size you will need. This is the beauty of the stock cat is the design that allows this to be done. This is a very common practice with the VW 1.8t community.

RE: exhaust question
Interesting. Just the answer I needed. Now all i need to do is find a good exhaust shop. Hmmm... Do you know, cincy, anywhere to find the best deal on a borla for my 180? Single outlet... I am trying to find it cheap because it is just a 180 single borla. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

RE: exhaust question
Do you know the muffler they use in the borla system for the 180? I would prefer to just buy this and have custom pipes made. I found a shop that said I should be able to save prob $150 that way. This shop also will mod the cat.

RE: exhaust question
borla makes their own. many people have made custom ones with a borla or magnaflow mufflers. You can get a magnaflow for under a $100 and a borla is a little more expensive, maybe $120-150. Just make sure you get a strait through muffler and the pipes are mandrel bent not crimped.
