Experience with HID upgrade?
curious if anyone here has any experience with HID upgrades.
I stopped by a a custom Car A/V shop yesterday here in Korea and saw some 12k HIDs.
I see they have the 10k upgrade on the ECStuning site, are these just plug and play or is there a new power supply and/or converter of some kind needed to run these as opposed to the stock 4300 HIDs?
Btw... Im in Korea, but curious if anyone knows the street legal limit in the US for HID intensity. Is it 6k?

Not so sure why you want brighter headlights, but it seems 6k and higher are for off road use exclusively.
I've only heard of HID conversion kits for cars that have normal headlights.
I'm going to assume that you would just plug them in. Considering our cars already have a HID ignitor and relay.
This is the only federal document I could find, Clicky

stock is in the 6k range. You go lower to 3k, they will be yellow, and if you go up to about 8k they will be blue and 12k will be purple. You now have the cleanest and brightest. So if you change you will lower the lights brightness and just be changing the color.
k stands for kelvin temperature of the lighting. The higher the kelvins (k) the more colorful the light, but you tend to lose some brigtness. I was thinking about using 8k hid's instead of the stock 4300k. All you have to do is find the bulb fitting size, i want to say its h1 or h2... not sure, i couldnt really find this answer... maybe do a forum search... but all you have to do is plug them into the stock ballasts. Very easy... if you can get the fixtures out, which i beleive you need to remove the front bumper? Not sure though. Good luck!
yea good call... I didn't realize that the color changed that drastically with it. I'll probably only go as high as 6-8k if I choose to upgrade. I like the lights I currently have, but I do consider them a bright yellowish. I'd prefer white or even a faint bluish tint (more white than blue) over the yellow.
