Default Experiences with tools (not the useful kind)

So I was reading chris's thread where he mentioend having a Prelude. It brought back some funny experiences I've had with them...I didn't wanna threadjack.

While I actually like Preludes (I think they're one of the best looking Hondas) it's kind of a pity that their reputation has been tarnished in my eyes by the fact that every prelude driver I've encountered back home is a tool. I'm not ragging on Honda drivers (and especially not saying any lude drivers are stupid). It's just for some reason where I'm from a good portion of Prelude drivers are idiots...and it's pretty amusing. I think an educated Honda driver would find it funny.

Anyway, one guy who had a pretty decent looking white 97-2001 gen Prelude used to hang out with my girlfriend's sister, so I'd always hear his ricepipe pulling up. He told me how he has headers straightpipes intake and some badass $1000+ ECU. He claimed 275hp. I asked him if he'd dynoed it...he said "no with my ECU you just rev the engine and it tells you hp."

That's where my ricer suspicion arose.

I know ECU's can estimate torque; I know VAG-COM does it, but +80hp off just bolt ons on an N/A car? And actually trusting that reading without dynoing?

Well one night I got to ride with him. Hop in his car...no back seats. Guess he kinda gutted it. Sub sounds like muddy crap. He has a big *** autometer tach with shift light. And I guess he thought he'd gut the shift boot since it was too heavy...becaues it wasn't there. And the **** wasn't even on straight.

So we're riding along he's like "yeah I know all the exact shift points to drop into VTEC." This, while being potentially legitimate performane knowledge, just sounded so ricey as a boast that I had to contain my laughter. "Yeah so right now if I dropped into fourth I'd be right at VTEC." Very interesting. I also noted how he drove...all of his downshifts were rev matched. By the clutch. He didn't blip the throttle at all. So we finally came to a stop light in the middle of nowhere, nobody around. "Hop on it" I said. "What?" he replied. "I said hop on it, I wanna see how it goes."

So he does. I kick my shoes off grab the morning paper and a cup of coffee and relax. Fill out a crossword puzzle. Doze off for a bit. Then we're at 80! Sweet.

I don't know if it had really tall gears or what but that thing didn't pull at all. I know what my car feels like from the passenger's seat; I let one of my buddy's drive it because it's amusing to feel it. Cars feel totally different from the passenger's seat at least to me; I feel the pull way more etc. This thing pulled something like an ice-cream truck, only the sound of the exhaust was far more annoying than any ice cream man's jingle.

All in all that thing generated a lot more noise than power. I definitely got a headache sitting in it. I was really disappointed; I was hoping to have my first ever ride in a fast Honda. Didn't happen. I kinda wanted to take him for a spin in the TT and see how he'd react to actually being thrown back in his seat.

Another Prelude guy raced my friend's old Z; his 300ZX automatic N/A. He lost by a car or two. The part that makes him a tool? He blamed his loss on needing an oil change.

Sooo what encounters have you had with tools like this?

THE SAT-DOG
My buddy had a saturn SL1 with an SL2 conversion?
I was like 15 when I new this guy we called his car the sat-dog. This saturn was tore up, it heald five people in a 4 door. The middle of his car had a custom floor becuase of the automatic transmission that was put there. He hadan engine swap done on it because the motor he was geting was faster,I believe he paid like 1200 for that car. I thought it was pretty fast then but I didnt know what fast really was. It was a car for trouble making and beer runs.
Now that I think about it I cant imagine how off inHP I must have thought that car had.

Being a formor Prelude owner (rip), I can tell you they are not that quick. The h22 produces 210hp stock and it is a very heavy car. My prelude was a 4th gen (1992-1996) and had all wheel stearing and the h23 engine. The car looked nice and could turn on a dime, but that was about it. They are notorious for burning oil, and rusting in the rear quorter pannels.

I have more sh!tstain drivers that think there V6 gaystang is the fastest thing on earth. And whenever they see more than 1 import gathered together they always show how retarted they are by revving past 5k and driving like no one else is on the road.

I dont like Hondas, but thats just because everyone and there moms have one. They make great engines and the aftermarket is greater than anyone could dream of. I just want to see a Honda with a nice built engine and with no body mods and the car sitting low.

I know what you mean, Murderface. We had a small meet back in July for Socal and Norcal people, and while there was a good amount of legitimate, tasteful enthusiasts, there was an equal number of ricey retards. (For the record, my exhaust was deep and smooth, not high pitched and crackly, and with Hondata and a few other small mods, I ended up making about 170whp. The car had about 102,000 miles on it, though, so I'm sure in its younger days it would have made more, but still, it was enough to break loose in first, and chirp in second and sometimes third). Anyway, at this meet, there was a guy in a 3gen riding on chrome 22s, lambo doors, and hydraulic airbags front and back who thought his **** was the ****.

cincy, I'll have to find some pictures one of my friends took of his Prelude for you. He built up his engine to break 300whp, all N/A (dyno proven on Dyno Dynamics dyno). His car is slammed. The only exterior mod is a full Mugen kit (tasteful and clean kit). Shaved the engine bay, full wiretuck, removed non-essential systems, relocated most of the other systems that could be relocated. It's beautiful.

Edit: That was fast, found em! It's even sexier in person, but he put so much freaking money into this thing it's ridiculous.

That tuck job probably took a better part of the weekend if not longer. So what does he have done to claim 300whp? Dyno proof?

it seems the faster you can bugger up the car with mods make you happy what was wrong with the car when you bought it

I'll see if he got a printout. It had been sitting at the same shop for the better part of a year building everything, shaving, tucking, etc. A week or two ago they dyno'd it with light tuning to 270whp, which I saw, then got a call a few days later saying they broke 300.
