My supra has an ITS 66mm turbo and I run a Tial 44mm external wastegate that dumps to the atmosphere. It really does screem on boost. It's pretty intimidating to those who aren't expecting it. If the car is your daily you might get a little sick of the external wastegate if you don't have it re-routed into your downpipe. I don't own an audi yet, but if you have room for the wastegate to be welded to the manifold, I can't see why you couldn't do it mechanically. I'm not sure as to how boost is controlled in the vw/audi world...whether the ecu controls a solenoid or whatever...but if so, you might have to run another type of boost controller. Not sure on that one.

Seems most people with 1.8BT setups on Vortex run 38mm Tials. Some route them to the downpipe, some route them as a separate pipe (which would be the mean sounding alternative).

Either way, they offer better boost control than internals.

You can run a GT 3071r or even GT 3076r with a external wastegate....it will scream if built up properly 450 AWHP or more....!

I rather have it rerouted back into the dp so it would be quieter going into boostso im not basically running 2 exhausts and then i can hear the turbo scream instead.

It actually depends on the wastegate spring. Since most gt's come with a 5 or 7psi spring andothers install a tial with 1bar or higher psi spring(s), the gates going to be closed longer resulting in faster spool ups. Forge makes an internal gate you can run, Don R is currently running one on his either gt3071r or 3076r, dont remeber whats in his golf.
