Default Faulty Fuel Gauge - - ;;

Im guessing this is an instrumental cluster problem, because my fuel gauge is WroNG. it keeps saying that I have full gas but I dont... what is up? Is there a simple fix for this besided getting a new cluster?

Maybe.


Could be that your senders are dirty, you can either run a few tanks of some sort of fuel line cleaner thru, or pull the senders, and manually clean them.

not sure the cause, but cleaning the senders would be a good place to start

Maybe try adding some Chevron Techron to the fuel tank ? It helped when my gauge was slow to rise....must break up some gunk on the sender.

Search for threads started by me. I had the same exact problem. I followed a DIY to clean the senders and it seemed to fix things... I cleaned one out of two, but maybe I shouldve done both...

Do you happen to have the diy for the senders ...

for some reason yesterday it was fine ... (i think it is the cold weather that is making my car go crazy)

If you have a VAG COM you can eliminate the cluster being bad in about 5 minutes by doing a gauge sweep. Go to module 17 and select output diagnostics and the gauges should all sweep together, if the gas gauge wacks out, you know its a cluster problem.
