The forgemotorsport FMIC also comes with a new intake manifold. Does anyone know how much better that is than the stock one?

yes, the 225 manifold is a big port. compared to most stock ones on the transverse 1.8t's

NO, acutally the 225 is a AMU or BEA engine code and is a small port. The only big port intake manifold is AEB (engine code)from a 96-99 Passat or A4 1.8T.

All 1.8t's except the AEB a4's are all small port here in the US. So the manifold is the same, just reversed.

If those are the only 2 you are concidering, the apr one will require far less effort to install (not changing mainfolds) and will still perform really well. TTSteve has one with his gt2x eliminator setup. Also the APR kit shoud be able to easily handle their stage 3(+) kits aswell.

thanks for letting me know, but I think im going to go with the Forgemotorsport FMIC because I plan to eventually get the APR intake manifold which would not work with the APR C style FMIC for the 180 tt

You may want to look into the better intake manifold for cheeper, they are out there and they will flow more air. Just my two cents trying to save you some money...

This is what I am going to go with: 007 Small Port (untill I get my AEB cylinder head):
