front end license plate
What did any of you do to take off the license plate on the front? When i take mine off it leaves four ugly holes that need to go. I just want a clean look. It is a sports car so i dont want anything on the front bumper.
State law may require you leave it on. I know that's the law in my state. I've never had one on the front though...been driving for two years now with no issues. I keep the plate in the trunk "just incase".
I just went with the german plate. It looks great on my 2002 6speed S4. It was custom made with my state and licence plate Number "CT-XXXXXX". Connecticut requires a front plate too. I know they have a full cover the size of a german plate for the s4.
That piece is $90 from the dealer, unpainted, you can get paint in a rattle can if you only want a small amount from www.paintscratch.com.
If you don't want to spend the $90, you can do like I did on my last TT, and 'shave' the whole plate insert. Incase I did need a front plate at some point, as a temporary thing (like getting out of a ticket) I glued some heavy magnets on the back of the plate insert, and more on the back of the standard US plate bracket. Magnetically holds the plate to the front of the car for something like a police inspection.
Anyway, magnets on the back of the plate insert, then scuff up the paint around the border of the insert, and the bumper, fill it full of bondo, sand, skim the whole thing, sand again, prime and paint.
I'm realy suprised I don't have any completed pics, I did it right before H2O in 06, my clearcoat was still tacky on the drive down, so all my pics have the whole front end masked with painters tape.
