Default Front Mount Idea

Yes, I know we have explained this to death, but allow me to beat the proverbial dead horse for just a minute. We were installing the water/meth and I noticed the most curious thing about the intercooler piping. We (the 180's at least) have the cross over IC pipe from the 225. We were going to take it out, but it serves as another brace between the frame rails. Also noted the shear volume of braces and fortifications the TT has over the Mark4 and Beetle chassis cars. My question is, would there be any theoretical problem with using that pipe as a return to the throttle body (i.e. have piping route from turbo---> fender area like stock---> intercooler ---> 180 degree bend---> 225 crossover--->throttle body) instead of going over the front of the motor like some Mk.4 kits?

~Anyone ever try this?

The 034 kit isthe same top flow design like the apr 180 kit. The reason 034's cost so much is for stainless steel and most likely a spearco core ($600+). The style you are talking about has been done in MKIV's for about 8years now by ABD and Nuespeed but they used their own piping to route it back. As for the TT, tCarbon just did what you are proposing. IMHO, it is a horrible design that adds way to much piping and volume to fill for a ko3. Much rather have a larger smic or top flow core if you want to retain the stock ic piping.

ok i have been thinking of cutting the front license plate holder panel out and putting either a rubber or similar trim around it to give a nice apperance....my issue is that all our FMIC are getting at least 50% core surface is blocked from direct airflow...think about the difference that would be made if the whole front of the core was exposed....as in most cars with FMIC lol not to many have half of thier core blocked by thier bumper...im just wondering how clean it will look after

The entire core is aluminumand the endtanks arecast aluminum.

By looking at it you could just bend a peice of sheet metal over it and then stick it under the mounting hardware. Then you can run a bead of silicone or something to stop the air flowing past it for a perfect fit
