full or empty?

I got im my car 2day and I know it has a 1/2 a tank of gas, it was over f! so I stoped a few blocks down and shut it off and started it up again, now it said 1/2 tank, 5 min later it was full again. I know its not the gas gods showing me love! any ideas?

Try running a couple of tanks with Techron added, it may be that the fuel sensor contacts have sulphur deposits on them. If that doesn't help it is most likely a problem with the in tank sensor itself or the cluster.

^ ive ran a few tanks w/ techron and no dice.

mine's def. a cluster problem since usually, half a tank means empty for me

And i bet theirs no way to just replace the gague? Anyone know of an aftermarket digital unit that would have all the readings needed?

dam forum is broken!.... anyway, no aftermarket fix. Yours sounds like the sensor in the gas tank.

So if the fuel additive doesn't work then how hard is it to replace the sensor and how much$?

I must be one of the lucky ones. My gas gauge always reads Full! Screw you, corporate America! I don't need your gas!

There are some how-to's online, just search. It sounds pretty easy. I think its less then $300 too.
