Hey Quattro

This is what I was afraid off...I guess as well that you didn't get the message I PMed you with a few days ago?

Anyway, my TT roadster is here now and I'll be damned if I'm gonna shell out $5000 bones just to gain 3 kmph more in "protection".

Funny how a 15 year old vehicle is not even required to enter the RIV program however, good thinga vehicle that old is safe enough to bypass the inspection eh?

AchTTung, congrats on getting the new car this week... Everything finally got worked out with that green machine then I take it. Cool. Is it a 225 or a 180?

And qwik,

Yeah, it's been a pain in the ***. I think I'm going to get around it but just when I think I have everything done, something else has come up.

Probably one of the smarter things I did wasget the dealership to write "Bumpers comply with Canadian standards" right on the bill of sale (even though they don't). I'm hoping that along with my *ahem* documentation stating that the appropriate parts have been installed will finally get me in the clear.

Best of luck in getting yours to pass too. It's such a joke. Also, find a good Audi/VW mechanic if you're not doing the work yourself as the dealers just try and soak you. As you probably read earlier, they were going to charge me about $500 to do the running lights, which a local Audi/VW mechanic did for $94 parts and labour.

And finally, sorry, I did not get your PM for whatever reason... I looked in my inbox and there was nothing there.

Hey Steve

Glad that you posted again here because my PM was much the same as what you just posted anyways..I had heard that RIV requires supporting documentation to prove that the work was done so my question was asking you if you knew that and had accesss to it. I had also heard that a parts list was not enough, they also need a bill of sale listing labour paid to install the parts...This really sux. I am going to begin the quest to find a work-around today.

Hey Steve

Any word yet? I got my DTRL all done (only took me five hours!), Etested and safetied...heading to the dealer tomorrow to see what they say...

What we need to do is come up with a list of applicable parts and labour to satisfy RIV.

BTW, a side note: even though my car came with an US paper temp tag, yesterday out of the blue my insurance company tells me they can no longer cover my car until I get Ontario registration, which I can't do until I complete the RIV process. I call the RIV to explain this catch-22 situation and the guy on the phone says "just drive without insurance" What an ***.

Anyway, I jumped through the hoops and got my Ontario paper temp tag today just to make the insurance company happy even though it's only good for ten days...

Update:

Well I had gotten a letter from the RIV stating that before my car would pass I'd have to supply the documentation showing that the bumpers had been modified. They asked for an invoice to show this. My plan was to "make" that invoice up given that I knew what parts I needed.

Lo and f'n behold, a week later, I get another letter from the RIV stating that my car has passed all tests and is now completely legal in Canada (without me sending them squat). I have no idea how this happened but it did.

For your reference, here is a letter that I received from Audi of America stating the parts required:

Based upon records in the possession of Audi of Ameria, Inc. we confirm that the vehicle identified was originally purchased by Audi AG, Germany, for sale in the U.S. market. In order for the vehicle to comply with Canadian bumper standards the following parts must be installed:

- Front Bumper - replaced with part number 8N0 807 101 AE (bumper) and 8N0 807 108 A (impact beam)

- Impact beam brackets 8N0 807 133 A and 8N0 807 134 A will be used for the front bumper

- Rear Bumper and Impact Beam - replaced with part numbers 8N0 807 511 D (bumper) and 8N0 807 309 C (impact beam)

Perhaps this information will be of use to you in your persuit... Best of luck!

So I decided to bite the bullet and pay to get new bumpers...the logic I used is that down the road, if I have the misfortune to get into an accident, it would be a real bummer to have my insurance company tell me that I wasn't covered because I never had my car changed over properly...Ironically the bummers are dirt cheap, it's the fancy new trim pieces that cover them that stinkin' cost $1000s

The saga continues...
