got my timing belt letter today
04+ are not covered, because the manual does not suggest TB at 105k.
I would hold your breath about getting money back. It's the same as the cluster... you might get lucky, but it's not likely. If this was a concern to audi, they would have mailed a tsb to change the tb sooner.

Here is the new page supplement to the Audi Maintenance booklet:
Timing Belt: Inspect at 40,000 miles
Timing Belt: Inspect at 80,000 miles
Timing Belt: Replac at 105,000 miles
The letter from Audi says:
Reimbursement of Your Prior Out of Pocket Expenses
If you have previously paid for a repair as a result in a timing belt failure, regardless of mileage, Audi will reimburse you for the cost of repairs made to your vehicle. If you provide the requisite proof of repair, described in the Notice, upon making a timely claim no later than September 30, 2008. Additionally, Audi will reimburse your out-of-pocket expenses relating to the timing belt failure, such as towing, alternative transportation, etc. See Notice for completed details. All claims are being reviewed and processed by the court appointed claims administrator:

We regret any inconvenience this matter has caused or may cause in the future. We wish you many more years of driving pleasure with your vehicle. Thank you for your continued loyalty!
In my case, the belt was changed at 60K miles as everyone here recommended. My 01 now has 77K on it. I doubt if the inspection by Audi is free nor would a replacment be free if they felt, upon inspection, it needed to be replaced. They are on the hook for damages done previously because there was no inspection called for.

are we reading the same letter?
mine said if it goes before 105,000 then it's covered. if it is inspected and they say it's gonna go, and then a week later it does go, they cover it. That's what the service rep told me over the phone. I'm going to stop by in person tomorrow and try to get every question answered and put in writing from the service dept manager.

i got one too... and on the back it says '' audi will cover necessary engine repairs if a broken timing belt causes a malfunction in your engine at or before 105'000 miles and you have had the timing belt and tensioner system inspectiong completed within 1500 miles of the next scheduled maintenance''.... if i had a scanner id put it on here for people....
my dealer says they inspect it for free. if it's good but it breaks before next scheduled inspection (80k) then they replace it for free.
chipped ECM has no bearing on this. they said none of my other mods do either, but will tell me if that changes when I have the free inpection and they see what I have done. I only have RSB, Haldex Blue, FMIC, wheels/tires, intake, Forge DV, Uni reflash, boost gauge
