Default read carefully...

guys hate to be the pessimist, but if you read what it actually says as Dennis has posted ALL that Audi has agreed to cover are those who have had actual FAILURES and the attendant expenses...no where does it say anything about reimbursing those who've had the TB done as preventitive maintenance prior to 105k. also, notice how they're saying they'll provide FREE INSPECTION...I'd like to know how many of us when we go in, are going to be told we should have it done...(which I'm betting is likely to be at OUR EXPENSE!) nothing here says Audi is covering TB changes. all they are offering is free inspections. If you think about it, it is a potential revenue generator for Audi service...further if they inspect it, and tell you you should probably have it done and you dont and then it fails, good luck collecting on that. So they get a potential revenue stream, are conceivably free from some potential liability and only have to pay out those who've actually had catastrophic failures and still own their cars....hmmmm.

WOOT! The Audi goddesses (or gods, but I think they're chicks cause Audis have style n stuff) appear to be smiling down on us! To think you guys laughed at me for paying $110 for G12! HA! Looks like I'll be getting my downpipe AND sway bars as soon as Audi cuts this check! *does the happy mod dance*

So what does this mean exactly:

Pursuant to the Settlement terms, timing belt system inspections are required every 40,000 miles. Timing belt system inspections can be performed as part of regularly scheduled maintenance, which includes recommended oil changes at 5,000 mile intervals. Therefore if your vehicle has reached 40,000 miles, you can get your timing belt inspected as part of your next regularly scheduled maintenance, which will be in no more than 1,500 miles.
Does it mean: go get your oil changed at the dealer and they will throw in a free belt inspection - but it's only free if your last oil change was less than 6500 miles ago?

Must all oil changes have been perfromed at a dealer in order to be in compliance?

But seriously, this is a joke. They are not going to give you money back unless your belt snapped and you had to repair it. All the people that had that happen are not many, and as it was stated, the inspections will generate tons of income. More than what it will cost to pay out to the people that have a belt failure.

In the end, the lazy, cheap bastards that waiting on the belt and had the engine go boom, will get money. But the informed, responsible owners that changed the belt at 70k-80k get nothing.

The courts do not work. $10 says the lawyers are the only ones making any money on this deal. Oh, and Audi too.

Well this is American the land of the free. Whatever the settlement says isn't set in stone. Aren't there any lawyers in here that can argue for us?! I think it is fair for people that did preventive maintenance get their money back because it was well know and documented common problem with the TTs.

This letter from Audi is a bit of a let down. I did preventative maintenance by changing my belt well under the recommended interval and for that I get nothing. I should have driven the car into the ground and then Audi would pay for a new belt and any necessary engine fixes. And the part about letting the dealer inspect my car. To me this means people will bring in their cars with 75K on the odometer and the dealer will say after the free inspection that the belt needs to be changed, that will be $1500 please.
I'm not impressed.
