Default Had TB Changed

@ 53,800 and 5 years in service.

Found a mech ringer in my little town here who has 30 years experience with Audis, Jags, BMWs , and Porche.

Charged me $400. !! Has anybody beaten that price?

Total cost with DG kit and coolant was $682.
Funny thing was he first said only $200, so I said , well, ok deal.[sm=happy046.gif]
Then when get got into it he found it would take more than 2 hours lol, so he bumped his price but still acceptable.

Belt looked worn and slight small cracks in it. Might have made it to 60k but why gamble?

Ha. I just had mine replaced last thursday at 60k. Cost me $834! You got a hell of a deal. I wish we didnt have to buy this belt so early in the cars life. I really could have used to the money to buy some nice rims

Did he change your waterpump and pulleys?

yea, the DG kit had all that in there and thermostat.

The existing WP was the 2nd one and it had the plastic impellers.

I changed mine at 57000 miles with the ECSTuning kit. I did it myself, nothing was really hard about it it's just alot of work and every bolt was a pain to get to and turn because of the tight spaces in the engine bay. It took me about 24 hours of non-stop work but I was set on doing it right and not messing it up. Turned out good.

I admire anybody who can do it themselves.
I'm smart but the mechanical apptitude is something I never developed.
Might try the haledex change myself.

I am a new forum member but have been lurking for a few months since I bought my ride in April. My car had 93k on it and I didn't know if the belt/accessories were changed.

I ended up doing it myself with the help of this forum and others. I was really glad I did as the water pump was the stock plastic impeller and was leaking.

It was not difficult and I am by no means an ASE mechanic. The key is to make sure you have the proper tools. This job will SEVERELY tax your tool set. Make sure you have a very good toolset (Craftsman, MAC, Snap-on), no made in China stuff.

Everyone on this forum should have a Bentley, a VAG-COM, and a very good toolset. The last thing you want is to be in the middle of a TB job and have to run to buy a 12-pt 19mm socket.

I have also replaced/re-greased the starter (starter grind) so if anyone needs help on that, I should be able to help.
