Default Haladex service instructions

Hi, my brother just boughtan '01 225 quattro TT with 60k miles. Yesterday we did the timing belt/ tensioner/ dampener/ waterpump/ service on the car. We have also already replaced the ribber belt and changed the oil. We also got the Haladex oil and filter, but when I finnaly found the filter in the car, I realized it was a job for another day. [] I have searched the website, but was suprised thatI could not find instructions on how to service this. I know there is a special tool, but I am just imagining a big star wrench for the filter. How do you drain the oil, get to the filter, and insert the new oil? Thanks.

You need a special wrench to get the filter off as well. You can get the VAG tool for around $70.00 (look for Matra T10066) or Modshack has a H-Wrench for $40.00

or do what XCLR8TT do. Grab the filter by the hand, use your super human strength, and twist!

Ha ha ha, I wish it was that simple, there is even less room to get a hand in on that filter than there was to get the Haldex controller installed. I had a very difficult time just getting the two screws out of there and then wiggle the controller out. I recommend you get the wrench unless you have superhuman strength and child sized hands.

Thanks for the responses. So you can get to the fiter if you have the tool, huh? Wow, it looked like I could barely touch the thing, let alone get change it. Then you have to put the drain plug back in without all the new oil falling back out.... that does not sound fun. Can you reinstall the plug, then insert the oil through the filter opening before installing the new filter?

It really isn't that tough to use the drain hole to fill it. Remember you are using a caulking gun to force the oil into the small drain hole. There is more than enough oil filled via the tube than would flow out through the hole. With the filter in place, the draining is very slow since it is unvented. You'll get a little bit of oil on your arm, but there will be more than enough left in the Haldex unit. Just have the drain plug stuck on the end of an Allen wrench close by, so when you pull the hose away you can fill it right up.

If you fill through the filter opening, you will not have a high enough level in the controller. The full level is near the middle of the filter opening.
