Default HaldexFluid Questions

It's been another 20k and its time to change the Haldex Fluid again. I have been refilling the unit via the drain plug but I always lose some fluid. It just seems crazy for the out hole to be the in hole as well. Has anyone used the fluid level check hole instead? I don't see why this would be a problem.

How often should the Haldex fluid be changed? Do all of you change it regularly?

Yeah, you change it at every 20,000 mile interval. It's kinda like changing differential or transmission oil. Except you need this special $60 wrench and you need to refill through the drain hole (makes no sense). Most people on this site definitely change it. I bet though a lot of people just don't though.

Because those are the directions in the service manual. All I can guess is that the German who wrote it had 1 two many Jagermeisters that day.

DO NOT USE THE LEVEL CHECK HOLE!

If you do, it creates an air pocket and no fluid touches the assembly.

IMO, It looks easier then it really is. It's hard as hell to get the fluid in the drain hole fast enough with the car up on jacks. It would be a lot easier with a lift. It takes a few minutes even to see the filter; however, once you find it, the filter comes off pretty easily.

All in all, its a dumb setup. I supose if you actually had the correct tool, rather then using a caulk gun, it might not seam so dumb.
