Default Headlight and parking lights on the blink -- ideas?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post, so please let me know if I'm at the right place.

The problem is with my 2003 TT Quattro -- one of the headlights is going out intermittently. The driver's side headlight goes out, and the headlight warning light illuminates on the dash. When I start the car a couple of hours later, thesame headlight is often workingagain.

The orange parking lights (beneath the headlights) also don't come on anymore. Both were working a few months ago, and one had been working untilabout a week agowhen I first noticed the headlight problem.

I'm not familiar with these type of headlights -- only the old kind, where they stop working completely and you change them. If a headlight works on and off, what does this mean? Is it a matterof putting in a new bulbor is it something more complicated?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The parking lights burn out all the time and are expensive to replace. I just got rid of mine. The parking light bulb is separate from the turn signal bulb hence why one dies but not the other.

Oddly enough one of my xenon bulbs randomly shut off and threw a warning light, then when I flipped it back off and back on it worked fine. Fickle little things.

You could try new bulbs but they're pricey.

Thanks. I may try a new bulb.Autozone's site is showing$37.99 for the bulb that supposedly fits, but I thought xenon bulbs cost more than that...

The bulb should be like 145.00 from autozone if its the HID bulb when my headlight burnt out it did it the same way yours is where it would turn on then go out after driving or being on for a bit and the time between turning it on and dying just kept getting shorter untill I replaced it and if your autozone is like mine they wont be able to get the bulb in so I'll throw this link out for ya.

Thanks for the link & sorry for the late followup. I fixed the parking light at the time, but the headlight bulb is just now starting to fail about 50+% of the time, so I am going to go ahead and replace it.

When I click on the link, I see that there are several bulbs ranging from $90-150 -- is there any real difference in these? (I would prefer if the appearance matched the OEM bulb on the other side, obviously.)

Also how difficult is it to replace?

Thanks

They change color as they age - you won't be able to match.

Ebay for the bulbs... you can find a set for as low as 40 bucks

you will want d2s and if you want to stay with the same color light go with 4300k

^ I assume d2 is the type of bulb?
What's the typical bmw/lexus blue? 6000K? 8000K?

Is there any risk in running the hotter bulbs? like other ones burning out?
I would think the housing i made to withstand well over the stock heat.

The stock bulb color is going to be a 4300k or 5000k
