Default Help! Transmission problems!

Well just a little bit ago I was going to pick up my girlfriend from work. I left a stop sign with no problems at all. I drove about another block and turned a corner and down shifted to second and there was nothing there. Then i slowed down and down shifted to first and nothing. Its not grinding or anything. R,3rd-6th still fine but my 1st and 2nd totally gone with no warning signs at all. Although i had noticed when i shift from 1st to 2nd at very low rpm's a light clunking noise. I haven't tried anything yet, though i would check here first before i go out wasting my money trying to find the problem. Any Ideas??

1->2 always sucks. The only thing i can think of is the syncros went bad. Your clutch would of slipped if it was that and you wouldnt go anywhere. Im not a tranny expert by any means, but thats what im going with. You could pop the hood and check the shift linkage just off the back drivers side of the engine to see if its all intacked. They are 2 silver cables abotu 1" thick heading towards the center back of the engine bay

I am having a clutch problem as well, my car is siting in my Garage. My Dad took my car out for a ride and jacked up "something". Later, I figured out it was prolly the clutch. I can't shift in high RPM and I have the clunk noise when I shift. I can still shift the gear but only in very low RPM. And the engine bay has a strange smell coming out after I drive it.

Conclusively, Clutch![:@]. try to go from there.

Thats sounds like a typical 02J tranny. Its most likely a shift fork on yours. 02J tranny found in the 5sp fwd's is known to not like high rpm shifts.

I Checked the brake fluid level and its okay. Shift linkage looks okay. I dont even feel like messing with the tranny fluid. I have to do it every 15k on my RX-7 and its a pain in the ***. So looks like im going to end up taking it to the transmission shop. My best guess is the synchros. Thanks for the help!

The fluid in the tranny is suppose to be "lifetime: fluid. But most change it around 60k+ with Redline RT-90 or Royal purple fluid

Well im getting the car back after almost 3 weeks. the shift fork broke on 1st and 2nd it also messed up 4th and blew the synchros. They also told me it needed a new clutch and it justhad one put in last july right before i bought it. Its costing me $3800 for everything. So im selling the car when i get it back and finding something more relaible. From this to the wierd *** electrical problems, ive had enough with this audi and buying something else.

Do a lot of TTs have transmission problems? I'm looking to get one with up to 60k miles on it but don't want to have to pay $3k to fix my tranny soon after I buy it.
