Default how much to change a synchros?

started reading around the net about the clunking noise i'm hearing when shifting from 2-3rd gear and it looks like its the synchros that might be the problem... how much is repairing the 3rd gear synchros gonna cost me??

Bad syncro's usually cause the gear to grind, not a clunk.

It is huge $$$ to replace them. Most people just replace the entire trans.

i'm surprized to here that. we would you replace the trans and not rebuild it. at least when you rebuild it you know you kinda have a whole new trans. or do you mean replace with a new trans??

the reason why people replace the tranny is the cost. a used working tranny is 1500-2000 to repair mine in california cost 1200. and a week. The downside to a used tranny is the syncros could go out in a week. then you double the labor and are out 1500. get it fixed and get it done by someone who has worked on the audi or vw golf transmisions. i am done going to the "universal"shops. they know a little about everything but not enough about anything, and when your car braks due to shoddy labor its your fault. I went to a small shop in San Jose to replace my axles. i drove the car 2 times a day for 3 miles to and from work. after 1 month my front wheel came loose (didnt fall off the car) and destroyed my front brake assembly. Guess what it wasnt their fault the mechanic didnt tighten the wheel down. The wheel should have fallen off the first day. i drove the car 200 miles.
