How much do stock rims weigh?
i wanna get rims but i m told that u don't want rims to weigh too much so i want to compare to the stock weight. does any1 know how much they weigh? Or is 22lbs too much for rims, that is how much the ones i m lookin weigh.
Remember that your moving the mass farther away from the hub as well so you need to reduce weight proprtionally. In other words a 25lb 18" rim will have the same inertial effect as a 30lb 17" rim. Not that that is how the numbers specifically break down, but it gives you an idea of the physics of it. You still want to get the lightest rim you can regardless of the size. That way you can look good and free up some HP.
shipped a OEM 6 spoke to be straightened today. Rim with an almost slick BFG gforce tire weighed in at 52lbs. You dont think about tire weight until you really see it...
I found out that Falken Azenis Sport Tires, despite being one of the grippiest street tires I've used are unfortunately heavy, kinda the same way.
Pulled one off to be replaced after someone sideswiped me in one of my past cars, and decided to throw it on the scale before taking it to the shop. Shortly thereafter I was placing an order for SSR Competitions with S03 Pole Positions. They never did make it on the car as it was garaged and sold not long after that, but that was probably one of the best performance decisions I've ever made. I managed to go to a +2 sizing and save 16lbs of rotational mass per corner, crazy stuff.
To answer one of the above questions there are many, many very high quality lightweight wheels available. The more important question is what do you want to spend? Go to wheelweights.com and start a list of lightweights that fit your car, then cross reference pricing if you can find a retailer.
OZ, Rays, SSR, BBS, Advan, Racing Hart, Enkei all have hardcore race offerings.
