Default How much would this cost?

I have a silver 180ttq. I was just wondering how much a two tone pain job would be? Does the whole car have to be done or can just the dome be painted black?

Here's the idea:

Any input would help, thanks!

Sata guns are bad a$$!! Now to do what you wanna do I4nche would be easy! Cheap! Now you wouldn't need a spendy gun like a sata. Cobalt would be grand for it. Now if your just doing the dome! A pint of black paint.and maybe 2 pints of clear! Can get by with one pint clear I just like to put a lot of clear on (due to weather-fadding- and it makes the paint look deep!) If you need more help just send a pm or something

doing obscure panels like bumpers, domes etc.. you can easily do it yourself if you have a covered garage or live in a very warm area to bake the paint afterwards... i've done lots myself back in the UK... i just have to wait until summer to do it... with some practice and preparation you can get some excellent results for a fraction of the price... you just have to get over your fear! lol

100% true! The worst that can happen is u run.let it dry sand it down and shoot it again!! No big thaaannggg. Like I said. If u need more info on step by step.things you will need, gun setup , needel sizes, cleaners , sand paper, taps, mixing the paint/clear.... Let me know! The sh*ttest part of painting is masking of the car!!!

prep work is everything. i sprayed mine flat black. So i couldnt really let runs happen...hence the expensive gun. but otherwise your fine. you can always sand it down and re shoot it.

The prep work is what makes or breaks a paint job. But back to the post you I really dont like the roof and pillars like that. Ever thought about following the lines on the hood, over the top, and the trunk ???

the silver one with a light gray dome looked surprisingly nice i have to say! im not a fan of the black two tone though... smacks of 'viper' wannabe lol

Yeah the hardest part when painting things that you cannot remove from the car is masking it, getting the paint and prep work into all the nooks and crannies, making sure you mask everything for over spray as it gets everywhere!...

Also i am not sure of the law or the paint mixes here in the USA, but the most prevalent in the UK is the two pack paint, which contains Isocyanates which are toxic so it is illegal to spray when not in a fully filtered booth...

However, it seems that most paints here are cellulose or water based which is good so spraying yourself should be fine. I used to rent all the gear from my local paint supplier over a nice warm weekend, i had a nice filtered mask and created a makeshift booth by using a very cheap wallmart gazebo thing, then wrapping painting dust sheets around 3 sides, the tops of which were perforated to allow air flow above the panels.

Here is one i made earlier... BMW E39 5 series, full front end, wings, bumper, hood etc...

One piece of advice i would give to you though from my own experience.... Put lots and lots of clear coat on in nice layers... this means that after a few weeks of it curing and hardening in the sun etc... you can get a PC mop and polish out any imperfections or mask them by giving a massively clean shiny appearance without cutting into the actual paint.....

A body shop quoted me $ 3-4,000 for the job, it cost me $200 in materials and rentals plus a weekend of my time and effort.

Prep work isn't hard or anything . Just need to take your time and do the steps. Clean it well. Don't get in a rush to paint it. Water base paints are great for painting in low vented area's. They can get speny tho . But they turn so nice! But you won't really be spraying a lot so I wouldn't worry about it. Just get a good mask.
