Hydraulic Tappets?
Hey guys new to the forum and to Audi as well so please forgive me if this has already been asked. I have got a 2001 Quattro 225 TT, when I get into the car after it has sat for more than a few hours I hear tapping. After I let the car warm up, maybe 30 seconds to a minute the tapping stops. Is this just because the fluid has drained out of the tappets, or do I have a problem developing? Let me know if you guys have experienced anything like this before on your TT's. Thanks
no experience with audi's as I have only owned my tt for 3 months. Keep me posted if you find the answer elsewhere though. Im trying to become familiar with the idiosyncracies of these cars...
Good luck

I talked to a couple people today at a local performance shop, and they all seem to think its due to the oil draining out of the top of the engine when the car sits. They all said it is probably nothing to worry about as long as it clears up in a few seconds, which it does. So I will just keep an eye on it and let you know if it blows up.
I wonder if it needs a valve adjustment...??? Probably a question for the bentley manual (of which I still need to pickup.) heck I dont even know if you can/should adjust audi valves....
Good luck though and let me know if you have problems...
Thanks

The audi does have 5 valves per cylinder... even my buddies SOHC ford v8 taps on startup,(oil drain during sit) and yeah it clears up after a second, he has 2 valves per cylinder and we have 5, logic tells me more noise would even be appropriate. i wouldnt worry about it. -mike
- oh yeah and since the mechanism for the 5th valve is somewhat complex... probably nothing to lose sleep over.
