Default I want my schtuff cooooooool

ORIGINAL: cincyTT

[ul][*]Better oil cooling – to the passenger side of old intercooler place I’m planning to place oilcooler because now it is under the car and I’m afraid to hurt it if I hit something on the road and it doesn’t seem to cool it enough -once you get a fmic you can use the side vent for a oilcooler to get air. You can also make life easier and just run a passat/a4 large oil filter. The car can then hold ~6qrts of oil. This would let it cool more then ~5.
[/ul]
Didn't want to continue to hijack that dude's thread....

These cars seem to run very hot (based on my experiences with my 225). Other than an aftermarket oil cooler, FMIC, Water/Meth Injection, CAI, Slim engine trim molding, and green top sensor... what else can I do to further improve the cooling of this beast? I was getting ready to start some pretty serious suspension mods when I realized that it would probably be more to my benefit to start fixing this cooling issue before it gets any worse and better yet; set it up so that the car will be able to handle further upgrades without melting some crap. [sarcasm]
I'm sure just the nature of the design of turbo cars produces much more heat than a regular car, but I find myself experiencing very high power-loss from heatsoak. I mean it is ridiculous. I can take my car out on a sunny day... drive 6-7 miles to go pick up a friend or something... and by the time I get the car out to an open road or some twisties... it's so damn hot that the car is running substandard. just from reading the threads on here.... this is my plan of action. Let me know if I'm missing anything:

[ol][*]Greentop sensor[*]FMIC[*]Dual Oil coolers (saw that setup on another TT on here somewhere. I'd like to try it)[*]Water/Meth Injection[/ol]

green top maybe needed in the future
fmic will solve the heat soak issue
oil coolers are notneeded unless you are racing and i dont think you will be competing at Sebring.
water meth is always a plus.

But if you really need more cooling (not sure why) you can get a new all aluminium radiator.

Most companies will make you an all aluminium one if you give them the dimensions and where you want the inlet and outlet.

Trust me, if you tried to fit a passat/a4 filter, you would know. The f'er is hard to fit. It is a tad taller and way larger around. You can just do a look up in the parts strore, or go get one at the audi/vw dealer.

im installing my SMIC this week to get rid of that heatsoak issue. A new rad sounds intersting, but is it worth the cost ?

Wow... that would probably have to be some pretty dern precise dimensions I would imagine. at least to ensure that all the mounting points were correct... the fit was correct... and inlet/outlet size & location were exact. I bet that would be a great investment, but I bet it would be a PITA to get all that info off the existing radiator.

Unless you would happen to know all that info off the top of your head by chance....

Well in the summertime you can run just distilled water and DEI's coolant additive they did a test in a magazine that I read and said it helped cooling by like 10 percent or something like that. Dont quote me on it, thats just off the top of my head, but hey its an option. Just make sure that when it gets cold out you flush it and put in antifreeze and water mixture. You can still use the DEI coolant additive, they said it dosent matter wether its with or without antifreeze it"should" perform the same. Other than that oil coolers, FMIC, water/meth injection. Have you considered just riding around without a hood? Look into the phenlic spacer it seems to help alittle also. You could try a cooler thermostat but then you risk other things happining to your car. I think that European cars just run hotter than american cars. I mean its not like the are really designed for the heat. I dont know of any place in Germany where it gets to 100+ for two weeks at a time or more.

Ehh... Im in Korea though.. and the temps are a bit cooler here than the US. It's still very humid though. heh

Im not so sure about driving around with no hood though. I'll start with the FMIC, temp sensor, and possibly water/meth injection and see where I stand and dependant on that... I may take it further. -shrugs-
