I think it is a state-by-state thing. Some states yes and some states no. I think that's much like how radar detectors are legal in some states and others not. Just speculation though.

I have a bct-12. I was told it's a felenoy to have one in your car.... They baned production of car based scanners....

The thing was pretty sweet; however, it just stoped working. I think the police changed freq's.

It is different from one state to another. MN scanners in cars or on persons are illegal w/o a permit. Radar detectors are legal, but jammers are illegal.

What I would love to find is the BearTracker that worked like a radar detector but focused in on the transponder frequency that most all law enforcement vehicles have.

My ex father-in-law was a trucker that bought one back in '95 and it worked like the V1 - if a cop vehicle came within a 2 mile radius (if memory serves) it would begin to beep slowly and gain speed as it got closer. But it would tell you if it was behind or in front of you which was a nice feature.

It had a drawback - it could only monitor certain things. Like in CA you could scan for the CHP - but would have to reprogram it to follow the city cops.

He left it mostly on the CHP freq and swears it saved his *** numerous times.

But I have yet to find it on the market anymore...

After I get my laser jammer, I'm feeling that that will be next on the list. Pretty good idea in the case of "instant-on" radar for highways and such

Did you guys not read my post above? I have one. They don't work anymore, because they changed freq's and you can adjust the freq's in it. They are preset per state.

You can use it to monitor hwy patrol and local police at the same time. Only hwy patrol uses the wakie talkies that it detects tho. However, in wi, they don't work anymore. It may be my antenna, but I doubt it.

I have the best one. BCT-12. When it works, your better off with a good rader. I love my 9500.

to answer this question YES it is illegal in IN to have a scanner in your possession without a HAM operator license. and yes in FT wayne the freq are all digital so you need the 400-500 dollar digital scanner
