Default Introduction

Hey everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. My names Vince, I drive a lexus sc400 right now which is being sold. My next car will most definately be a tt. It amazes me how inexpensive these cars have become. A 2000 just doesnt look like an 8-12k car imho.
I'm 16 and payed 5000 for the lex myself and cover insurance and gas, my parents dont help at all which sucks. Ive been driving that since I got my license in November and have saved up another 6k since then. ( I mow lawns, have an ebay business, and work at an auto repair shop) My car has low miles and I bought it wholesale so I can easily get what I paid back out of it. Then, I'd be looking at about a 9k tt with 2k/yr insurance.
I've been researching these cars a lot and know about the timing belt/water pump issues along with the guage cluster going crazy. Am I missing any other really big issues mechanically?
Please dont tell me to get a corolla or save my money for college, I worked hard and this is what I want.
How come it seems like tt's never are for blue book price on autotrader. like ones with 140k mi are going for the price ones with 80k mi should be. According to Kelly blue book, I could get a nice good condition tt 2000 model with about 80k mi for around 8-8.5k. but that never shows up on autotrader.
I think I'm looking for a black or silver one, anything but light blue with that blue interior. sry if that offends anyone but its not a favorite of mine.
Modding wise I'd start a little down the road with a chip and a boost controller, dp, etc..
Then Exhaust, Wheels, tint, more looks stuff.
I plan on keeping the car though college, im going to be a junior in hs this year. I also dont find the tt to be a "chick car" at all!!
Any answers to any of the questions would be great!
just wanted to say hi,
Vince

There are a ton of different options for a stock TT; all of which varies by year.
Read the FAQ at the top of the TT section, there is a TT buyer's guide in there.
Good luck and welcome to the forum!

The reason you'll not find a car for what bluebook says it should be, is because the cars usually don't show their age as much as the average car. If it doesn't look as old as it is, you'll pay the price of what a newer looking car is gonna go for.

Works to your benefit once you own one. I had a 180hp TT up until Feb, and then I was driven off the road and totalled it. Insurance gave me $1500 less than what I had paid for it 2 years and 35,000 miles earlier.

wow thats interesting... not very good when I'm trying to purchase though[]. I was really thinking I could get one for 9k after seeing blue book. I might have to wait another month before I can afford one then. They are incredibly nice cars, my dad couldnt believe it when he saw kbb. I joined that charlotte group on yahoo groups so i'll be making it out to some meets once I get the car.
