Default Jeff's TT Page - auxillary input question

I've been trying to decide how I'm gonn rig up my stock head unit for an auxillary input when I stumbled on Jeff's TT page with great directions on how to do so...

I was wondering if anyone has simply pulled the head unit out, cut the audio wires (the red and white) from the cd player and re-routed them to a simple RCA cable with a 3.5mm jack on it? Jeff's page outlines putting a switch in to toggle between the cd player, but I have no need for that (what is this 1997?? (jk)).

I did the whole deal with the switch to toggle between CD and my sirius receiver on my old TT. If you have no use for the CD player, than go ahead and cut it and route in your RCA jack so you can listen to your Apple walkman or whatever.. what is this, 1987?? ; )

I'd be real careful with any electrical applications from Jeff. His car caught fire and burned to the ground.

Not proven to be his fault. There was a recall on some A6's from the late 90's where there was potential for fire from the headlight switch. None for the TT's, but Jeffs fire started after he started the car and turned the headlights on. Apparently (from what I've read, haven't confirmed) there isn't really a fuseable link for the zenons, other than the honkin' 110A that sits on the battery. So a short causing a fire is a real possibility.
