Do I have to re-oil my filter after I clean it?

 

short answer is yes

long answer is carefully follow the instructions. if you use too much oil you can foul your MAF

 

Thing is can't find both the cleaning kits I have as I'm in the middle of a move. But really need to clean that thing. It's black!! Haha

I can actually vouch for an over oiled filter causing MAF problems.

Just out of curiosity, how did you determine that the oil was the cause of your MAF problems?

I bought a brand new MAF and did a filter clean/oil and after a day it ran like ***. I cleaned the MAF and traded the K&N for an AEM dry flow, problem solved. Also, when you clean your MAF, why would it run better if the debris/oil doesnt make a difference? BTW, Im not sure i trust the testing unless it was done independently.

 

Testing doesn't have to be independent to be honest.

You changed two variables after your car ran like ***: cleaned maf and dry filter. So, that begs the following questions:

Did you retest with K&N after cleaning the maf?
Did you clean the MAF before your original install or install straight from the box?
Did you test with "dirty" maf and clean dry filter?

Without retests/controls, any results are inconclusive.

Its been a while, cant remember specifics.

 

Im sure over oiling isnt going to kill a maf in a day or week. But all that oil is most likely going to get sucked into the intake at some point if its not absorbed into the filter element. This will then do the same job of making the maf sticky to dirt and effect the readings. Best bet is still to get a dryflow filter and avoid oiling all together
