Ko3s on a TT
This guy at a performance shop that will remained unnamned for now just tried to tell me all TTs in the US come with a KO3sport and not a KO4 like the ones in Europe..i know i'm not crazy and neither is everybody else on this forum thatknows the KO4 comes stock on the TTs..
Basic explaination is, the 2000's leading intothe 01'shave the K03, all the 180's after have the K03s, and the 225's have the K04.
The K03 in any form is a little retarded, its like the whole turbo is the size of a damn grapefruit (thats a slight exaggeration). Something like a 4mm shaft on them too, a little scary I think. The K04 might have a tiny shaft as well though, still scary to think about.
I think theres a couple little variations in the K03's, pretty sure I remember Cincy listing them off quite a while ago, but that doesn't really come into play too much..

ATC = ko3
AWP = ko3s

AWP = ko3s
I was thinking of swapping in a K03s when I fab up an exhaust. Should make for a decent hp gain overall...I'm hoping like 15.
the ko3 has a 12blade wheel and 4mm shaft and the ko3s has a 8blade wheel and a slightly larger compressor inlet. The 8blade ko3 (the term ko3s doesnt exist, its a term made up by us tuners to tell the differnce). Also the ko3s has a differnt wastegate that is supposivly better than the ko3 aswell. The ko3s is rated 15hp or so higher than the ko3 and is slightly more effient.
The ko4-001 is a direct replacement for the ko3(s) and has a slightly larger compressor wheel and uses the same ko3 compressor cover. Its not any more efficient than the ko3s and is only rated 5hp more. The ko4-001 will only spike slightly higher and fall of just the same as a ko3 and ko3s.
The 225 turbo comes in 3 versions. The ko4-20/22/23. I do not know when they switch from one to the other. But the 20 i believe has a longer compressor outlet than the newer versions and the 23 comes with a built in EGT in the turbine outlet. The supply and non EGT makes the 20 the popular choice for most people that do the ko4-2x swap on there VW's. The wheels (turbine and compressor) are both larger than those on the ko3s/ko4-001 so the power is higher and holds more boost longer. Where the ko3s is rated to 220hp, the ko4-2x is rated to 270hp i believe.

BTW it was Dahlback's US distributor that told me this...in any case, have you seen Dahlback's prices? He's freaking crazy! $179 for a 5bar fpr..$8g for an almost BT kit?! Maybe they pay that much in europe, but I don't here!
