Default Light white smoke from exhaust

Hello,

I was driving short journeys (about 1 mile – 6 times) yesterday and I had white light smoke from exhaust on idle, After I went for another 3 miles journey in the city, temp on gauge was 75-90 C and on idle there was still light white smoke. I couldn’t see any smoke when I drove. I have seen that white smoke before but I thought it was only exhalation due to cold weather.

Today when I arrived to work after 7 mins drive I couldn’t see any white smoke on idle….

What I have found out on the forums is that white smoke means damaged turbo…does it indicate this in my case?

Car is Audi TT 225.

The seals are probably starting to go.

Does it mean I will have to change turbo soon?

or just rebuild it...
could have cracked the block or blew a head gasket.. white smoke means your burning anti-freeze (coolant) dark smoke is oil... and blue-ish is both.

I would have water in oil or mayo....no oil in water reservoir ....

But why it is on/off????

could be just a very minor head gasket leak. Water could be getting pushed into the cylinder(s), but that doesn't mean that oil is leaking to cross contaminate.

If/when it does it again, smell it. If it smells kinda sweet, its probably coolant.

I thought that one these cars it was more than likely the oil cooler... Haven't had the issue in a TT myself, but head gasket issues on the 1.8T are more rare than oil cooler issues, right?

Another 20 mins journey today and no smoke so hopefully it was only condensation....anyway my engine is still poorly...going to do leak test this week and I hope I will find leaks.

Anyway thanks all for your comments.

Hi
I have not got a clue about cars. (sorry)
I have an Audi A4 2.0 TDI Convertible.
After starting up from cold i get white smoke for short while whilst driving for 5ish mins.
If i take it for a hard run and foot down to get revs up this smoke goes. It seems to be intermittent. ie This morning no white smoke after left over night. But leaving work yesterday (11 hours later) white smoke.
