Default MAF Delete

Hey Guys,

I have a local performance shop (friends of mine) that say I could gain a large increase if I was to have them install a MAF sensor delete. My brother recently did a delete on his Evo 8 and the increase on the dyno was 52 horses! He is now running around 368 horse to the wheels in that thing. They have never had anyone that owns and Audi try a MAF delete before, and as such they say it should work without any problems, but are unsure until they tried it and tested it.

Just wondering if anyone has tried something like this before, or has any thoughts as to how it would work on our cars. I don't know a whole lot about the emissions systems on these cars, nor any for that matter, so I'm a little reluctant to just let them start tooling around with my car. :P

Thanks,

Anthony

i never tried it, it can be done with a diode hack, but i cant figure out how it will make that much more power. If anything it will prolly make you lose power in some parts of the band. Really curious though, can you ask them what the principal behind the idea is?

I'll have to ask them for a bit more of the technical side of this, as I'm not quite sure how it gives such an increase. I'll let you know what I find out.

Seems dubious to me. To increase power you need more air and more fuel. Chips essentially do this by increasing boost (more air) MAF senses more air flow and delivers more fuel. Removing the MAF you have to replace this level of control.

Interesting... I have never heard nor considered anything like this, dosen't sound like something that would help the car...

Its sounds like it has "BAD" written all over it, the MAF regulates the amount of fuel that goes into the engine based on how much air is flowing thru it, if you take that away the only thing that I think is that you put something in its place that pushes as much fuel as it can all the time, so therefor I would think that you would be running so rich you would actually lose hp except at high RPM's. As for me, im gona leave mine in.

When you unplug the MAF the ECU will use the default maps. So no matter what you do the car will run in a default stock like mode. Unless you couple the MAF removal with a standalone ECU you are not going to gain a thing.
