Yup, sounds like a bad MAF. Try cleaning it, but with that many miles a new one is probably in order.

So,if one were to unplug the MAF and have no changes to the cars performance, would then the MAF be a culprit? REVO and Forge DV. Spotty idle at times and not so strong after 5 K, just linear.

No, if there is no improvement then the MAF is okay. Your problem sounds more like a boost/vacuum leak. Best bet is to do a pressure test. Pick yourself up a Pressure Tester or take it in to a shop and have it done.

Just spray the cleaner on the MAF. It's usually just a light film of oil that coats the wire. The cleaner solvent will wash it off.

cool, thanks. when i reinstall the sensor do i need to do anything special when i start the car for the first time in order for the ecu to reset from the base map. i assume i'll start up in stock programming so i guess i'll have to manually set my apr program again. is this correct?

Nope, you won't need to to anything. The ECU will adapt to the MAF in about 70 miles.

i'm going to go ahead and order a new maf from ecs. is there any difference between the $99 bosch on ecs and the $300 unit that my shop wants to sell me?

I just went through this. The $99 version is direct from Bosch. The $300 is the one Bosch makes and VW/AUDI puts their stamp on to charge more $$$.

I emailed ECS and that was their answer. The also recommended the $99. Make sure its your Engine code though.

Awesome, thanks for the help. Do you have any opinions on the best spark plugs to run with an apr 93 octane program?

Only mods so far are ecu flash, forge DV, and forge TIP. Do you think there is any need for me to run different plugs?
