maintanance questions.
Just got my '01 225hp roadster, and wanted to see what you guys thought were fair prices for the following maintance jobs.
Replacing the timing belt - I hear those go WAY before Audi says they should.
and
Replacing the haldex fluid and filter (clutch right?)
I think the dealership I got the car at will take care of these, but as the timing belt hasn't actually broken yet I'm not 100% sure. Just looking for some ballpark pricing and if anyone knows a good Audi mechanic in upstate NY that would be cool.
Thanks

Haldex is the AWD system, not the clutch.
How many miles do you have on the car?
Do the timing belt at (or a little before) 60K miles. You can expect to pay about 25 hundred for Audi to do both of these jobs at the same time.
My suggestion:
~Buy the timing belt kit from dieselgeek.com or ecstuning.com.
~Buy the haldex fluid and filter from ECS.
~Take your TT to a dependable mechanic in your area (If you can't DIY).
~Save a ton of money.
~Buy a chip, DV, boost gauge, and other mods with all the money you just saved!
~And don't forget to thank Becca!

Where upstate? I'll give you a hand if you wanna do it some weekend. I have a pretty nice garage. Im 40 minutes south of Utica. I've done 2 timing belts myself, on a 180 and a 225 TT, and I've done the haldex fluid/filter a couple times too. Haldex is a 20 minute job, timing belt is about 6-7, or nearly 9 if you're doing the thermostat as well.
***I see now you're in Albany, thats a 200 mile round trip to my place as I've recently learned. I've been working in the Verizon building on State St. for the last week. I'm available most fridays, saturdays and sundays if you'reat allinterested.

Sweet - thanks for the offer to help do the job. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but would love to learn. I'll contact you if the dealership won't hook me up. I saw you mentioned the thermostat -Is there anything else worth doingalong withthe timing belt job? It's got 67k miles.
thanks again, achttung.
and thanks becca!

Its about $250 for the almost all inclusive timing belt kit from www.dieselgeek.com, you'll need to buy at least one bottle of pentosin G12 coolant, $7 a bottle from that same site, 2 bottles if you want to do a full coolant flush. You'll also need to pick up a small bottle of Audi powersteering fluid, you always loose some when you pull the resevour to get at the timing belt. That list should cover everything you'll need for that job.
For the haldex change, the Haldex service kit WITHOUT the tool- I have the tool.$60 kit from www.ecstuning.com.
Another option if you don't want to try it yourself, and the dealer quotes you $1000, is Salisbury Motor Car, in Salisbury NY, its a little closer than driving to my place for ya, and this guys excellent. He's one of the founders of the North East Quattro Club, and runs a top notch shop. Also an APR dealer, so you might as well get chipped while you're there... ; )
