Default maybe audi :)

Hi guys, I have been thumbing through your site for the last hour or so, just trying to check out some mods and what not, and trying to make a decision. Very Nice Site By The Way...

I currently have a very modded (E46) 2003 330i, and a (W203) 2001 C320 that is asthetically modded only. A good friend of mine runs a small dealership that just sales EU cars- mostly preowned. He has a 2001 225hp TT that he will let me have for a VERY good price. A VERY VERY good price.

First, I like the car very much. I was just wondering if there is anything I should know before buying the car. I am used to high maitenance cars as I had a 993 for a bit untill last year. Are these cars pretty reliable? In particular the 2001 model?

Second, I have been trying not to be too much of a noob, and have been exercising the search function, but:
Is the TT a pretty easy car to modify the performance of? What kinda things do you guys do on here to wrench out some extra hp aside from the exhaust/intake? I have never had a supercharged car, but hear they are really easy to tweak with under the hood to get some sick HP

Feel free to refer me to any threads of interest!

First of all, whats the price they are asking, and how many miles.

The car is turbocharged, not supercharged and yes, that model is very easy to modify. You can simply put in a chip and get over 260 hp and 280 tq out of that engine. Its a quick little car. An exhaust would be awesome for that car but the intake is already good so i would not mess with it. Plus a new diverter valve to hold the boost. That should get you a fast little ride. Being a quattro and a small car, you can throw it around curves preatty easy. My buddy has one he is selling but it has the apr chip only, and that car is fast as hell!

I can get the car at cost- so im looking at a 2001 225hp TT w/ 43k miles on it for 14500 out the door. He was going to sell it on the lot for around 18+. It has all service records in a folder in the glove box, and a girl traded it in. The only thing is (though may be normal) is that when I was test driving the car, and really giving it a run, I noticed that the temp gauge would rise a little closer to the red than I am used to on my Bimmer.

He has my old AA supercharger off of my old 323, so he is going to knock another $4500 off of the price if I buy- for payment on the S/C.

The main thing I want to make sure before I buy it is that the turbo(s) is/are in good shape. Do those go out easily? A guy that goes to my college has an S4 and he has gone through one already with under 50k miles on the car.

Can you get a TT up to the 300hp range easily? With what you were talking about would $3,000 get those to it?

you can get to 300 a lot lower than that. with the chip, exhaust, new diverter valve and maybe a small amount of spray, you are at 300 for around 1500 bucks! the chip alone will get ya to 265 hp and 270 tq. the exhaust will add to that and the diverter valve will make sure you keep the full boost going. Im guessing with exhaust, downpipe- if you are in a state that doesnt require cats, and the other parts you will be at around 280-285. maybe get a pully kit from ecs tuning and you might be at 300. trust me though, that car is quick at 265! will it be a 6 speed? my buddy ran quarter in low 14's with his chipped tt. with some good driving and exhaust, maybe break into the high 13s with it. Top speed no idea but it will do over 135 i know that from being in his!

oh yeah and sorry, the turbo going out thing, I have had my a4 chipped for 4 years now and its the same k03 in the tt i think and i have never had problems with it. just make sure you upgrade the diverter valve or bad things could happen. maintain the car well and that turbo will last a long time. i have 150k on my a4 and it still runs like a champ. ur friend in the s4 prob beats his car like crazy to have those problems.

forget the spray, why would you recommend that to get to 300 hp in the 225.

modshack intake $260(modshack.info), chip $500, exhaust $630-$900(pending brand), modshack boost machine $160, FMIC many options

should def get you to 300 hp
