I've got a 2001 TT (1.8, 225) stock that has been my commuter car for the past 90k. The odometer is sitting at 104k and I'm worried that I may want to move on before the little things that need fixing become big things at this mileage. The car was perfectly maintained up until the past 20k which worries me. I stopped commuting and the local dealership didn't do the maintanence I asked for. I unfortunately just found this out because I took it to an independent german shop and their research showed the 100k service wasn't done. Now the battery is dead and little things aren't working like the window washer sprayers.

I'd like to know what an average lifespan for mileage are on these cars. There's still trade-in value in this car but I love it. I just won't love it if it is in the shop more often than not.

Any feedback you can give me?

1.8t should easily see 150-200k miles if taken car of.

 

yea my friend has a 1.8T 2000 jetta with 427kms. mindf you he has replaced 1 headgasket, all the coils, flex, emissions systems, clutch 2X, wiper motor .. the lsit goes on.

but it runs, and really the work put into it has been IMO regular maintenance. tranny is still fine, motor is fine (internally).

 

just about everything you listed would of died atleast once if not more in that time. Some things are to be expected.

 

difficult to answer but simple in terms of age ( I see the old cars as what the are ) you see the new, only thing you cant see is the technology that come so many techs have stalled on the trade because of new technology I on the other hand have enhanced because of it and find it intriguing and simple

 

yea i know, thats why i said it was all regular maintenance. its not like it all broke at once
